Asa Wilkerson's Obituary
Asa Wilkerson, Jr., 87, passed away February 3, 2015. He was born on May 12, 1927 in Newbern, TN to Sannie and Asa Wilkerson, Sr. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Asa was the owner of Wilkerson Piano Company and was a Master Piano Technician. He later worked for Rhodes College for over twenty years. Asa enjoyed flying air planes and also sang tenor in a barber shop quartet in his earlier years. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Dorothy Wilkerson; children, Susan Griffin (Mike), Hazel Teague (Jack), Asa Wilkerson III (Patti), and John Wilkerson (Connie); grandchildren, Stacy, Kenneth, Daniel, John Jr., Nicole, and Kristi; great-grandchildren, William, Haydan, Gavin, and Lilliana; and nephews, Chuck, Peter, Donald, James Edward, Tom, Richard, and Harold; and nieces, Patti, Alice, Donna, Gail, and Lisa. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Michael and niece, Sandy. Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 3:30 p.m., Friday, February 6 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. The family requests any memorials be sent to Baptist Reynolds Hospice House. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
