Arthur "Joe" Simmons' Obituary
Arthur “Joe” Simmons, our beloved Father and Grandfather, died on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at home in Memphis at the age of 94. He was married to Mary Margaret Simmons for 51 years, and is survived by his three children: a son Michael Simmons (wife Marsha Simmons), and daughters Linda Bacon (husband Mackie Bacon) and Judy Hillard (husband Richard Hillard), all of Memphis. He was devoted to his wife and family. He leaves six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II, stationed in New Guinea, The Philippines, and in Japan with the Occupying Forces. Mr. Simmons retired after 40 years of service from Sears, where for 34 years he was the Licensed Gunsmith for the Mid-south Region. He also worked part-time at the Mid-South Coliseum, from the day it opened to the day it closed. He served as a Juvenile Court Probation Officer. He was as avid hunter and fisherman. Family will see friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 28 at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Poplar. Memorial service will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Park on 5668 Poplar with Interment to follow at Memorial Park Southwoods on Hacks Cross
