Anton "Tony" DiGirolamo's Obituary
Dr. Tony DiGirolamo, 79, passed away peacefully April 30, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ailene Davis DiGirolamo, daughters Debra (John ) Gatti , Laura (Gary) Teuton , Brenda Duntsch , a son Randy (Ellen ) DiGirolamo., a brother Roy (Bernadette) DiGirolamo , and 8 grandchildren . Tony retired as a Lt. Colonel from the USAF. He was the captain of a flight crew who refueled one of the first aircraft to fly around the world without landing in 1958. He served in Vietnam from 1969-1970 with over a hundred combat missions and was awarded a Bronze Star. Dr. DiGirolamo earned his Doctorate from Nova University. After retirement from the Air Force he was the Dean of Aeronautical Sciences Department at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University from 1975-1985. Dr. DiGirolamo was the Business Administrator at Calvary Assembly of God in Ormond Beach, Florida from 1985-1988. In 1988 he moved to Memphis, TN and started a 14 year career with FedEx. Dr. DiGirolamo held multiple management positions at FedEx until he retired in 2002. Following retirement Tony served the Lord by leading Men’s groups and teaching leadership principals at his local church and Teen Challenge of Memphis. Tony will be remembered for his love of family and the Lord. He was an encourager of people and was known for always asking, what can I do to help? The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 9 a.m., Friday, May 3 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be in West TN Veterans Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Assembly of God, 8650 Walnut Grove, Cordova TN 38018, to support World Mission scholarships.
