Annie Lois Collins' Obituary
Annie (“Ann”) Lois Thornton Collins, 85, entered her eternal heavenly home on December 1, 2021. She was born October 6, 1936 to Bilbo and Lois Thornton in Walnut, Mississippi and was the oldest of seven children. After graduating from high school, she moved to Memphis, Tennessee. She met and married Bobby Collins in September of 1964 and was a devoted wife until his passing. She was a loving mother to her two children. She worked as a secretary at Stratton Warren and Sears Crosstown, before going to work as the office manager for Dr Robert McBurney and later, for Dr Christine Mroz where she remained until her retirement at the age of 70. She had a strong faith in Christ and was a dedicated member of Leawood Baptist Church for more than 55 years.
She is preceded in death by her father, Bilbo Thornton, her mother, Lois Lanier Thornton, her sister Janice Thornton, her brothers Perry Thornton and Billy Thornton, her husband Bobby Collins and her daughter, Audrey Collins. She is survived by her son, Jeffery (Blair), her sister Linda Hunt, her sister Shirley Ham and her sister Nell Stewart, and by her grandchildren Tyler Collins, Kaitlyn Collins, and Raymond Collins.
Ann’s life was marked by her selfless sacrifice on behalf of her family and by her service to her friends and to the members of her church family up to the final days of her life. She loved those around her by doing for them, whether driving people to appointments, volunteering in her church’s mission center, or in any number of other ways that she ministered to the needs of those around her. She was engaged with the senior adult ministry at Leawood, with her family, and with her neighbors. When she wasn’t serving others, she enjoyed tending her flowers and her garden and being outside. We rejoice in our confidence that she is with her Lord and Savior now and that she has finally entered into her rest. She touched so many lives. She will be sorely missed by those of us who remain.
