Anne Motley's Obituary
Anne Marie Motley, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on April 28, 2026. She was born in Phoenix, Arizona, on October 26, 1954, to Edwin and Imogene Hoelzen. In 1975, she married her high school sweetheart, Edward Motley, and they lived in Phoenix until moving to Memphis, Tennessee, in 2004.
She earned a BA in Music Performance from Grand Canyon University in 1993. An accomplished flautist and devoted supporter of the arts, she performed with the Germantown Symphony Orchestra for many years after moving to Memphis. She was also an avid reader and a gifted seamstress who created beautifully embroidered and smocked dresses, as well as treasured quilts.
Anne is survived by her husband, Ed; her children, Laura Shamu and her husband, Geoffrey, and Lisa Shahaden and her husband, Tom; her grandchildren, Emma, Addison, and George; her brother, Stephen Hoelzen; and her sister, Carolyn Fazio. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Edwin Hoelzen.
A memorial service will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Memphis, Tennessee, on June 26. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. The family warmly invites all who knew Anne to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Germantown Symphony Orchestra or to a charity of your choice.
