Anne Fleming's Obituary
ANNE TALLEY FLEMING of Memphis, TN, wife of the late prominent physician and surgical oncologist Irvin Durant Fleming, MD, died June 10, 2015. The family will receive friends at Independent Presbyterian Church at 9:00 am with services afterward at 10:00 am. On Saturday, June 13, Internment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. She was the daughter of the late David Brents Talley and the late Olga Bates Talley. She leaves sons James Hunter Fleming, RA (Elise), Talley Durant Fleming, DMin (Sharon), Martin Douglas Fleming, MD (Christine), and Jason Bates Fleming, MD (Alison). She also leaves thirteen grandchildren: Elizabeth, Grace, Ross (Ryann), Lillian, Caroline, Carson, Jacob, Margaret (Tyler), Andrew, Parker, Hunter, Mary Frances, and Henry. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee at Methodist University Hospital on March 22nd, 1932. She was a graduate of Central High School in 1949; during this time she was a founding member of Pannettes Social Club. Many of Anne’s acquaintances during school became life-long friends and members of the Sewing Circle. She took her BA degree in English Literature at Southwestern at Memphis (Rhodes College) in 1953 where she was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She also earned certification in Interior Design in New York City in 1963. During her life, Anne was known by all as a fiercely positive lady with an indomitable spirit of joy. As a cancer survivor, Anne always partnered with her husband, Irvin, during his medical career and both were active life-long volunteers in the American Cancer Society and engaged in the war on cancer. Anne spent much of her life dedicated to raising and showing champion dogs and was highly respected at the national and international level; she served as Corresponding Secretary for the Dalmation Club of America and was certified by the American Kennel Club to judge for over 38 breeds. Anne was a long time member of Independent Presbyterian Church and active in the IPC women of the church and Book Club. When not raising her four boys, Anne volunteered with many civic groups in Memphis including: LeBonheur Club, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Kings Daughters, and the Decorative Arts Trust of the Memphis Brooks Museum. Throughout her life, Anne remained an avid reader fascinated with all things British and enjoyed the English Speaking Union. Anne will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
