Anna Mae King's Obituary
Anna Mae King passed away peacefully at Allen Morgan Health Center on July 18, 2021. She was 97 years old. She is survived by her brother Oscar Williams who is 103 years old in Trumann, Arkansas.
Anna was born on June 4, 1924 near Lepanto, Arkansas to Harry and Annie Dean Williams. Her mother passed away when Anna was 3 years old and her Aunt Nell raised her for most of her young life. Anna was working as a soda jerk in Marked Tree, Arkansas when she met her future husband, John D. King, who was “the man about town.” They married on April 13, 1943 in Greenville, MS while Anna was on break from her civil service job in Washington, D.C. It was a “fun marriage” and John was the love of her life. He worked as an accountant and she eventually worked as his assistant after working for Sears for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her brother Robert Williams.
Anna was a devout Christian whose faith guided her throughout her life. She was a charter member of Evangel Church. Anyone who knew Anna automatically fell in love with her. She had a welcoming personality and was an avid storyteller. She was the historian of her family and her close group of friends. She had a giving personality and was always willing to go out of her way to help others.
A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, July 23, 2021 at 11:30am at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis, TN. Visitation is open to the public at 10am. Marc Clapp will officiate per Anna’s request. Please send memorials to Evangel Church, 262 N. Perkins, Memphis TN 38117.
