Anna Louise Hilger's Obituary
Anna Louise Hilger joined her God in Heaven on December 17, 2023, in Memphis, TN, following a battle with cancer. She was 80 years old.
Anna was born on January 26, 1943, in Washington, D.C., to parents who were serving their country during WWII in the Navy (father, B.W. Brock) and federal government (mother, Dorothy L. Brock). The Navy took Anna and her family to many locations across the U.S. such as California, Kansas, Texas, and Tennessee, as well as abroad in Japan.
After settling in Memphis, she graduated from Frayser High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Memphis State University. She taught home economics in Corning, AR, and Cleveland, OH. Later, she earned a master’s degree in early education from Memphis State and taught kindergarten at Christ Methodist Day School and Bruce Elementary. Anna was a long-time member of Christ Church in Memphis, where she was a founding and active member of the Positive Christian Singles group. Anna’s hobbies ranged from sewing and needlepoint to sailing to woodworking to creating all sorts of structures with PVC pipes. Anna graced her students, friends, and family with her creativity and kindness.
She leaves behind her sister Sherry Cassell, brother J Warren “Skip” Brock (Deborah), daughter Amy de Jongh Curry (Michael Curry), son-in-law Craig de Jongh (deceased), grandson Cole de Jongh, nephews (Robert Pado, Jesse Pado, Christopher Brock) and niece (Chelsey Hart).
A graveside service will be Wednesday, December 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, December 27 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Christ Methodist Church, 4488 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN, 38117.
