Ann Overall Kinney's Obituary
Margret Ann Overall Ward Kinney died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday morning, July 20th, 2022. She was 94 years old.
She was our beloved Mother, confidant, friend, and a constant source of strength and encouragement. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Edwin Ward (Bonnie) of Lexington, TN. She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Bunn of Memphis; her son, Daniel Ward of Smyrna, TN; her stepchildren, Rosalyne Vaccaro of Memphis; Wayne Kinney (Ester) of Santa Fe, TN; and Gary Kinney (Denise) of Knoxville, TN. She is also survived by grandsons Nathan Ward of Lexington, TN; Noah Bunn (Jillian) of Dallas, TX; and great grandchildren Lily Ward, Riley Ward, and Vivian Bunn, as well as other nieces, nephews, step grandchildren, and close family in Memphis.
Born in Humboldt, TN to parents Rev. Daniel Overall and his wife, Ruth, her life was long and full. She had two younger sisters, Nancy Weatherly (deceased) of Memphis and Danette Rosenberg of Charlotte, NC. Having been a child of the Great Depression (not to mention being the daughter of a Methodist preacher), her wants and needs were simple and few. She grew up with an abundance of love and was quick to return that love to all she knew throughout her entire life. She cherished God, her family, and her church.
A graduate of Lambuth College, she had a long career as a federal government worker. The vast majority of her working life was spent at the U.S.D.A. Cotton Division. Though she was great at what she did professionally, her true passion was as a mother and as an active leader in the church. She was a member of the Bartlett United Methodist Church for over 30 years, and even when she moved away and transferred her membership, she still considered it her church home. She served many positions in the Bartlett church from Youth Choir Director to Sunday School Teacher to multiple stints as President of the Women of the Church as well as serving on various committees as requested. She had a beautiful voice and sang in the choir for many years.
For those who knew her well, she had a quick wit and loved to laugh and fellowship. She was a blessing to all who knew her and was a perfect example of Christian humility and love. I have every confidence that when the heavenly trumpets sounded, she was greeted with, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
A celebration of her life will be held at the Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN in the Mausoleum Rotunda at 11:00AM on Monday, August 15th, 2022, with her nephew, the Reverend Dr. David Weatherly, presiding.
Please send memorial gifts to Bartlett United Methodist Church, 5676 Stage Road, Bartlett, TN 38134.
