Ann Jane James Karcher's Obituary
On Monday, May 20, 2024, Ann Jane James Karcher died peacefully at age 100 in Arlington, VA.
She was born September 26, 1923, in Memphis, TN to Jane (Hall) and George Clayton James. She graduated from Memphis Technical High School in 1940 and attended West Tennessee State Normal School (University of Memphis) where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She married Oliver William Karcher at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church June 6, 1945.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Ann is survived by her six children, James Karcher of Arlington, VA; Jane Irwin of North Richland Hills, TX; George Karcher of Memphis, TN; John Karcher of Walls, MS; Alice Ann Moore of Rogers, AR; and Katherine Clark of New York, NY; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to devoted wife and generous mother, Ann was a lifelong Episcopalian, serving through the years on alter guild, as a Sunday school teacher, Lenten luncheons, and volunteered wherever needed. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed American history, fine arts, reading insightful books, travelling, cooking well-balanced meals, and baking homemade desserts. Ann was also a top performing Tupperware dealer for 40+ years, all the while supporting her husband in the operation of Tri-State Body Works, Inc., a truck body manufacturing firm.
Funeral will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Memphis, TN, on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 11a.m. with burial at Forest Hill Cemetery-Midtown.
