Services will be held at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church on Thursday, February 3 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs Stewart was born to Greek immigrants James and Virginia Poulos in Atlanta, Georgia on February 18, 1921. Mr. and Mrs. Poulos moved to Memphis in 1935 with their three daughters. Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Stewart and her sister, Dena Poulos. She leaves her son and daughter in law, Johnny and Kay Stewart; and three grandchildren, Matt, Michael and Michelle Stewart. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Jean Ellington; one niece and her husband, Patricia and Ronnie Grantham; one nephew and his wife, Stan and Dana Ellington; four great nephews, Frank and Stephen Grantham, and Nathan and Collin Ellington; and one great niece, Alex Ellington. Mrs. Stewart graduated from Humes High School and worked shy of 25 years with E.H. Bruce. She was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church for over 75 years where she was a charter member of the Daughters of Penelope, the Maids of Athens, the Elpis Philoptochos Society, and the Young at Heart. She served in the church’s bookstore and spent hours in the kitchen preparing for the many Greek Bazaars. But her greatest joy was singing soprano in the church choir. Mrs. Stewart was an avid theater-goer. She will be remembered for her loving heart and generous spirit. Her family requests any memorials be sent to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
