Anita Maureen Lewelling Smith Thomsen's Obituary
For 94 years, Anita was an angel on earth following her birth in the Dollar Hill Community in west Tennessee. She was recognized and known by all as a wonderfully devout Christian and a long-time member of White Station Church of Christ in Memphis. Many words capture her sweet, humble character. Among them; faithful, selfless, pure, generous, sincere, supportive, forgiving, and most of all loving. Her favorite things included; teaching art to children, travel at home and travel abroad, Sunday School groups and Wednesday luncheons, loyal friends too numerous to mention, her dachshund ‘Heidi’, her cockatiel ‘Jacki’, exercise class, shopping, basketball, and her grandchildren who knew her as “Monie”. She was known as an excellent cook who was always quick to share the bounty that came from her kitchen. Anita was also quick to visit those who needed support, quick to send thoughtful cards and letters to anyone who needed a boost, and quick to share her home with someone in need. If she had a fault, it was driving too fast while talking on her cellphone. She was so very genuine.Preceded in death by her mother, Helen Brandon Lewelling “Moma Lew”, her father William Ernest Lewelling “Poppie”, her sister Doris Lewelling Crider, her husband Paul Gentry Smith, Sr. of 26 years and her husband Vern Clarence Thomsen of 20 years.Survived by her brother William Charles Lewelling “Bill” of Memphis and her sons Paul Gentry Smith, Jr. (Judi) of Nashville and Patrick Arden Smith (Georgia) of Memphis. Grandchildren; Paul Gentry Smith, III (Brennen) of Chattanooga, Nathaniel Brown Smith of Nashville, and Grace Arden Smith of Memphis. Caregiver, friend, and close companion Tracy Fason of Memphis. A private interment will follow at the Memphis Memorial Park Mausoleum. As an alternative to flowers, donations to White Station Church of Christ, Memphis, Tennessee would be appreciated.
