Andy Wayne Anderson's Obituary
Andy Wayne Anderson, 78 of Germantown Tennessee passed away on January 30, 2024, after a long hard battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis – ALS
Wayne was born January 18, 1946, in Harlan County Kentucky to Mildred Beatrice Durham and Walter Ernest Anderson. Wayne graduated from Watkins Overton High School in 1964. He began his college career at the University of Tennessee at Martin, later he completed his education at the University of Memphis where he earned two master’s degrees in education and marketing.
Upon graduation Wayne became an American History Teacher in the Memphis City School system but later pursued marketing with Lawyers Title Company. Wayne built strong relationships with the home builder and realtor communities which led him to a very long and distinguished career as a high-level executive at numerous banking institutions in the field of residential construction lending. He was highly respected and beloved in the home builder, real estate, and banking community. Wayne was as comfortable at the building site as he was behind his desk. He loved working with his hands and learned carpentry and woodworking from his father. Often referred to as “Mr. Fix it”, he was always willing to take on a project for family and friends and had every tool known to man.
Wayne was actively involved in the community. He was a loyal member of the Highland 100, the Kiwanis Club, on the Board of the Ronald McDonald House, an associate member of the Homebuilders Association, Committee member of the Mid-South Fair, a member of Carnival Memphis and the Grand Krewes of PTAH, and later The Memphi.
Wayne was more than the sum of all these things. Most importantly he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. In January of 1982 he married the love of his life, Denise. Their love burned brightly for 42 years. Wayne and Denise were the couple that others gravitated to. They made lifelong friends in every sector of their life, many of whom traveled with them. To their friends he was known as “Wayner”.
After retirement, Wayne was able to focus on his two loves, travel and Denise. Anywhere they went was okay because “together was his favorite place to be”. They traveled to too many destinations to count. Some of his favorite places included Mexico and the Caribbean or anyplace with an ocean and a beach. Wayne also loved his boat on Kentucky Lake aptly named “Bankers Hours”. Many memories and friends were made in the 17 years he had her.
The grandchildren lovingly named him G and it stuck; therefore, he was known as G to a great many people. He was a dedicated and adventurous grandfather who left a legacy and a lasting influence on his grandchildren who adored him.
As a selfless, loving, giving, helping man who always put others first, it is no surprise that he was our EVERYTHING.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Denise, his daughter Leslie Albers (husband Steve), his brother John Allan Anderson (wife Eva) and his three grandchildren: Gregory Albers, Eric Albers (wife Shannon), and Zoie Albers.
The family invites friends to gather Monday February 5, 2024, for visitation at 12:00pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home 5668 Polar Ave Memphis, TN. Services will be following at 2:00pm at Memorial Park.
