Amelio L. Guasco's Obituary
Amelio Louis Guasco, a devoted, loving, and faithful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on June 11, 2024, at the age of 97, surrounded by his loving and supportive family in Memphis, TN.
Born on August 24, 1926, in Memphis, Tennessee, Amelio grew up on a rural farm instilling in him the values of hard work, dedication, and selflessness. He proudly served his country as a brave and honorable veteran of the Korean War. Amelio went on to serve as a decorated and distinguished inspector for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, retiring in 1993. In addition to his law enforcement service, he was a familiar face at the Scott Street Farmer’s Market in Memphis, where he was a long time President of the Shelby County Grower’s Association.
Amelio married the love of his life Marion Calvi, in Memphis, May 19,1951, before his deployment.
Known for his friendly, outgoing, and welcoming nature, Amelio was a pillar of strength, wisdom, and kindness, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service to others. His large, close-knit Italian family was a testament to his unwavering love, guidance, and devotion.
His memory will be deeply cherished and honored by all who knew him. Amelio never met a stranger and once you met him, you never forgot him. His quick wit and smile were infectious.
Amelio is preceded in death by his mother and father, Angelina Gaia Guasco and Mario Guasco, his two brothers, Raymond and Joseph.
He is survived by his wife Marion Guasco of 73 years. Together they raised three accomplished and compassionate sons, Guy Guasco (Leigh) of Collierville, TN, Ray (Joanne) of Eads, TN, Daniel (Gina) of Cordova, and their special adopted daughter, Marci (Eric) of Sandy, Utah.
In addition, he has eight bright and talented grandchildren, Alissa Abercrombie, Jenna McDuffie (John), Kathryn Cartwright (Matt), Sara Collie (Eric), David Guasco, Raymond Guasco (Isabella), Amy Mason (Curtis), Stacey Maxwell (Derick). He has thirteen vibrant and energetic great-grandchildren that always kept him on his toes. In addition, he has many nieces and nephews who were also like his children.
His visitation will be at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 8151 Chimneyrock Blvd., Cordova, TN at 9:30 a.m. until the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 20, 2024. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
