Alyce Cook's Obituary
Alyce Venita Cook, 93, died on Saturday, February 27th at the Village at Germantown following a 10-year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.Alyce was born in Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma, on March 17, 1922. She was the daughter of Henry Walden and Laura Belle (Moad) Mitchell. She was predeceased by eight of her nine siblings (Vivian Eva Fitts, Joseph Christopher, Merle Irene Andrews, Linas Moad, Doris Winona Rahill, Bert Walden, and Roy Keith). Her youngest brother, Edwin Dean Mitchell survives.Trained as a registered nurse during World War II, Alyce worked for many years as an emergency room nurse at Procter Hospital in Peoria, Illinois. After retirement, she continued to use her training as a devoted volunteer of the Red Cross. Her “take charge” manner and her loving care of her patients was reflected in everything she did. Even during her struggle with Alzheimer’s, she was always reaching out to tend to the needs of others. Alyce was a member of the Sarah Polk Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.Alyce was predeceased by her husband of 27 years, Oliver Lewis Cook, and her first husband, John Merric Corkill, to whom she was married for 41 years. She is survived by her son, James Merric Corkill (Janice), daughter Aleesa Blum, and grandchildren Melissa Grove, Shannon Corkill (Cheryl), Christa Olsen, Morey Meeghan Bell, James Bell (Nicole), and Kegan Corkill (Katie). She had six great-grandchildren.Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Memory Gardens in Kewanee, Illinois, on Thursday, March 3 at 10 a.m.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119. “Celebrating Life… Behind the Stone Wall”
