Alvin R. Fister's Obituary
Al Fister, 87, passed away April 11, 2017 after a lengthy illness. He was predeceased by his parents, Alvin and Lilly Fister, and two brothers, Paul and Russell Fister. He leaves his wife of 61 years, Delores (Susie) Thom Fister, son Alan Fister and daughter Julie (John) Phillips of Brentwood, TN, daughters Lisa (Greg) Rhodenbaugh of Columbia, MO, and Valerie (Chuck) Lindley of Germantown, TN, fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also a sister, Mary Jansey of Florida and nephews and nieces. Al is well known for his businesses of Al’s Golfdom and Al’s Golfhaven, family recreational centers that operated in the 1960’s until 1974 and 1995 respectively. They were the fulfillment of a life-long dream. Also, he was East Memphis Exchangite of the year and is in the Memphis Hall of Fame for Tennis. He played basketball and baseball at Newberry College, South Carolina then went into the Army before getting his Master of Science at Indiana University where he met Susie. Then he taught in Michigan for five years where he coached football, basketball, golf and track and was the Athletic Director. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at 2:00 on Saturday, April 22 at Farmington Presbyterian Church, 8245 Farmington Blvd., Germantown, TN (phone 754-2794).
