Alvin Russell Clack, Jr.'s Obituary
Alvin Russell Clack, Jr., 77, entered into the Heavenly presence of our Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, September 20, 2018. He was born October 27, 1940 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina to parents Alvin and Lola Clack (both deceased). He was preceded in death by the love of his life for 53 years, Barbara Raines Clack. He is survived by his beloved sons Alvin Russell Clack, III (Kelley) of Cordova, TN, Robert Brent Clack of Somerville, TN and daughter Melanie Feltner (Jeff) of Winchester, VA. He adored his six grandchildren: Brandon Clack (Marian) of San Antonio, TX, Angel Clack Edwards (Josh) of Batesville, MS, Carlie Clack and Chase Clack of Cordova, TN, Josh Feltner (Stephanie) and Will Feltner (Tara) of Winchester, VA. He was proud to be a great grandfather to: Ava McClellan, Mason Edwards, Teagan and Kinsey Feltner, Colton Feltner, Gavin and Colton Barber.He graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and later earned his masters from Memphis State University. For the last 25 years he served in the financial industry. His current position was President of Strategic Wealth Management.Russell made it his heart’s mission to be involved with multiple men’s ministries such as First Evangelical Church Monday morning prayer group, Thursday Band of Brothers prayer group and Friday men’s group. He was the founder of Warriors on the Wall prayer ministry, supporter of Contender Ministry and the John Bramlett Ministries. He served on the Advisory Council to Christ’s Community Church, the board of Barnabas Associates, was a member of the Gideon’s Ministry and helped in church planting. His true passion was supporting missionaries, too many to list.He was a long time member of First Evangelical Church where he served as deacon, elder and teacher. He currently was a member of the Refuge Church, where he served as deacon.Russell was an avid sportsman. In high school he was a basketball point guard, and state champion tennis player. He always enjoyed cheering on the Tigers at the University of Memphis games with his son Russ. He had a great love for soccer. While his sons attended ECS, he was an active member of the athletic booster club and was one of the founders of their soccer program. He coached many games and later proudly cheered on the sidelines for both his son andgrandsons. He was instrumental in assisting his son Brent in founding the Fayette Community Sports Association.In his youth, he grew up on the beaches of North Carolina where he worked as a lifeguard. During the summer months at the beach, he learned to shag, an east coast dance step. His love for dance and music led him to start the Memphis Shag Club. You could find him many nights at the Bop Club, Shag Club or BB Kings dancing and listening to music.After the passing of his wife Barbara, and because of her unconditional love for him and her desire for him to know Jesus Christ as his Savior, he was moved to write a book to encourage men to be Godly husbands and strengthen marriages. “Before She is Gone”, is a testimony of God’s grace, forgiveness and redemption through his Son Jesus Christ. Over 1200 books have been distributed.Russell was a loving husband, dad, grandfather and friend. He was a Godly example, and encouraged everyone around him.Visitation is Monday, September 24th from 5:00-7:00 pm at First Evangelical Church. The burial will be on Tuesday, September 25th at 1pm at Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway in Bartlett. The Celebration of Life will follow at 3 pm at First Evangelical Church, 735 Ridge Lake Boulevard in Memphis.In lieu of flowers please send memorials to a Mission of your choice that works to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ
