Altona Yarbrough's Obituary
ALTONA HARRIS YARBROUGH, 66, returned to our Creator peacefully at home attended by family and friends, April 4, 2011. Born February 19, 1945 in Jackson Tennessee she was a graduate of Jackson North Side and Memphis State University where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority and Air Force ROTC Angel Flight. Altona was twice elected Rose of Kappa Alpha Order and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was an active member of Subsidium and continued support of the Oral School for the Deaf as well as Disabled Vets, St. Jude and other charities in later years. Altona was a full time wife, mother and doting grandmother while maintaining close relationships with lifelong friends and family in the Jackson area and from her College days. She leaves her loving husband of 44 years, William Arthur Yarbrough (Bill); daughter, Elizabeth Altona Underwood (Libby) and her husband Andy of Memphis; son, William Matthew Yarbrough (Matt) and his wife Beth of Memphis, and son, Mark Harris Yarbrough of Germantown. Four grandchildren: James Alexander Underwood (Alec), Jacob Andrew Underwood, Harris William Underwood and Helen Elizabeth Yarbrough. The visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 8, also at Memorial Park Funeral Home with a committal service to follow in the Memorial Park Mausoleum Rotunda. Memorials may be made to Oral School for the Deaf or LeBonheur Children’s Hospital.
