Alton Earl Moore's Obituary
Alton Earl Moore, of McKinney, Texas passed from this world to the next, on Sunday, July 30, 2023, with his family at his side. Alton, 84 years old, passed away at Faith Presbyterian Hospice in T. Boone Pickens Hospital, Dallas Texas. He was born July 4, 1939 in Walnut, Mississippi.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. A graduate of Memphis State University, he was a real estate appraiser and a member of First United Methodist Church of Grapeland, Texas. He met and married the woman he called his “Only girl” , Maxine Ray in 1961 in Memphis, Tennessee and then they moved to Springfield, Missouri where he was in US Army Basic Training at Ft. Leonard Wood before he was assigned to HQ & HC Company, 65th Engineer Battalion, 25th Infantry Division, and they moved to Hawaii. He was later transferred to Ft. Holabird in Baltimore, Maryland where he was an MP.
After completing his service in the Army, Alton and his wife and by then 2 children, moved back to Memphis, Tennessee where he worked as a draftsman for Dover Elevator in Horn Lake, MS. In 1971 he was transferred to become a Sales Engineer for Dover Elevator Corp. in Houston, Texas. After completing a career with Dover, he went into real estate. He became a broker and later a real estate appraiser when he and his wife moved to Grapeland, Texas. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge of Texas and twice Past Master of the Spring, Texas Lodge and Grapeland, Texas Lodge. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and a member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans and a life member of the American Legion. He was a serious student of genealogy and loved sharing family history with those in his family. He never missed an opportunity to visit family when taking trips and taught his children the importance of not only knowing where you came from, but meeting those relatives in person and learning their stories so that their lives would be enriched.
Alton was preceded in death by his parents, William Bryan and Mildred Madge Youngblood Moore, his brothers Roy Newton Moore, Clayton Paul Moore, his sister Janie Sue Moore and his grandson Dale Staner. He is survived by his loving wife Maxine Ray Moore of McKinney, Texas, son Tracy Moore of McKinney, Texas, daughter Toni Daniels and her husband John of Melissa, Texas, grandson Royce Moseley of Houston, Texas, granddaughter Summer Rhone of Royse City, Texas, great grandson Preston Cates of San Antonio, Texas, great granddaughter Madeline Staner of Pearland, Texas and great granddaughter Isabella Moseley of Houston, Texas. And extended family members include nieces and nephews and many beloved cousins.
You are invited to attend his services at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery 5668 Poplar, Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38119 on Monday, August 7, 2023 at 1p.m. Visitation will be prior starting at 12:00pm until 1:00 pm. His internment will immediately follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral services are being handled by Memorial Park Funeral Home of Memphis Tennessee. Col. Jim Patterson, USAF (Ret.) will officiate with the message being brought by Alton’s nephew Minister Roy Bryan Moore.
The family would like to thank the staff at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in McKinney, Texas and Faith Presbyterian Hospice at the T. Boone Pickens Hospital in Dallas Texas who faithfully cared for him for the months proceeding his homegoing.
