Allison Godman Ricketts' Obituary
Allison Godman Ricketts, 58, passed away on June 21, 2023, in Memphis, Tennessee. Allison was born April 26, 1965, to Raymond and Jean Godman in Memphis, Tennessee. After her mom’s sudden passing, her father remarried to Jane Shuler (Godman), who Allison lovingly referred to as mother. She graduated from Briarcrest Christian School in 1983 and then attended Memphis State University. While attending Memphis State University, Allison worked at TJ Maxx where she met the love of her life, Greg Ricketts. Allison married Gregory Thomas Ricketts on September 15, 1990, at Union Avenue Baptist Church. Greg and Allison would be married for 33 years this year. They had two children, Christopher and Ashleigh. Allison was a devout Christian, and member of Central Church at her passing.
At a young age, her dad introduced her to 4 of her favorite things: the Memphis Tigers, traveling, music, and drag racing. Allison spent most of her childhood cheering on the Tigers with her dad and Crone family. Her love for the Tigers continued and grew even stronger over the years. Allison and Greg were season ticket holders for Memphis Tigers Basketball and Football proudly supporting them even in the lean years. For the past several years they rooted on the Tigers to much success with their closest friends (The Blackards and Hamptons aka the Section 118 family). Aside from traveling to away games, Allison’s favorite vacation spots were San Francisco, California (where she said she always left her heart) and the beach. She was also known to travel locally and to the surrounding areas to hear bands from all musical genres. It was in her teenage years when Allison discovered the singer Steve Perry and band Journey. In her lifetime, she saw upwards of 100 concerts including a dozen or so Journey and Steve Perry shows as well as other various artists (Chicago, Kenny Chesney, Lionel Richie). Allison also spent most of her childhood traveling with her father all across the country to watch his Tennessee Bo Weevil at NHRA events. Her dad was her biggest hero.
However, Allison’s greatest love was her family. Although she worked outside the home, her crowning accomplishment was being a loving spouse and nurturing mother to her husband Greg and her kids, Chris and Ashleigh, whom she talked proudly about at any given opportunity. They were her life.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Jean; father, Raymond; and brothers, Phillip Godman, John Shuler, and Ronald Shuler.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Greg; their 2 children, Christopher and Ashleigh; her stepmother, Jane Godman; sister Ginger Whitworth (Rick); and several nieces and nephews.
Allison was a model of perseverance and faith, and displayed that all the way through her life, even up to the very end. She fought the good fight, and her strength and dignity will live on through the lives of everyone she touched.
