I have known Mrs. Greene for most of my life! In 1957, when I was a Sophomore at White Station High School, she was my Home Economics teacher. and without a doubt she had the greatest impact on my life of any teacher who taught there. She always led me to believe that I might have been her 'teacher's pet'. If there was a sewing contest to enter, she put me in it, even when I tried to get out of it! :) I remember her putting me in a side room with a sewing machine and handing me the most intricate 'Simplicity' pattern ever, telling me she wanted me to make and then enter it in the Mid-South Fair. To this day, I do not remember if I even placed, but I do remember that she had enough confidence in me to know that I could make it, if I tried. She always sought out the best in all of her students.
After high school and all of the many years that have followed since then we have kept in touch, through our Christmas cards, and letters. She knew some of my Holly Springs family well and this provided another way of our staying in touch. She talked about her life adventures, which including her travels with her beloved Gene! She talked about her children with much pride! Through her beautiful letters I could 'feel' her caring heart and her love for others. The last letter I received from her was in March of 2020. Part of her return address had been torn off, so I had no way of contacting her this Christmas. I had wondered if she was okay and had hoped that I would be receiving a letter from her soon. I just hope she knows how much this now nearly 80 year old loved her.!
Allie Greene touched my life much more than she will ever know! She certainly brightened the hearts of many, including my own and also took a part of mine with her. My world is definitely a brighter place because she was in it. I am thankful that she shared her life with me! I will miss her so much.
May God wrap His loving arms around each of your during your time of sorrow and in the months ahead, and give you peace.
