Allan Prentiss Bowden Sr.'s Obituary
Allan Prentiss Bowden Sr. went home to be with the Lord on July 23, 2025.
He was born in Columbus, Mississippi on January 4, 1946. As a boy, he moved to the Memphis area in second grade and grew up in Germantown, TN.
He attended Southern Avenue Baptist Church and accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior as a child. He attended Germantown Elementary, Junior High and High School, graduating in 1964. It was during his high school years that he met his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Hokanson Bowden, and she would be his soulmate for the next 59 years. As a college student, he attended both LSU and Memphis State University and joined the Air Force ROTC. Upon graduation from MSU in 1969, he served as a Second Lieutenant at Laughlin Air Force Base flight school and Columbus Air Force Base as well as the Foreign Training Officer to International flight students, finally receiving his honorable discharge as a First Lieutenant in the USAF.
Following his discharge, he became a stockbroker and continued in that career at Stifel Nicolas, Raymond James and Hilliard Lyons investment firms for 50 years. His reputation among those in the investment community was unmatched and he was dearly loved by his clients for his caring and thoughtful approach to each individual client's needs.
His Christian faith was the most important part of his life, and his sincerest desire was to please His heavenly Father by modeling his life after Micah 6:8 Having attended First Evangelical Church since the early 1980's, he served several terms as both deacon and elder throughout his membership over 45 years there.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Jeannette Winn Bowden, his father, Warner Hill Bowden, his sister, Susan Bowden Taylor, and infant granddaughter Susannah Lynn Bowden.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Hokanson Bowden, three sons, Allan Prentiss Bowden Jr. (Lisa Bowden), Andrew Paul Bowden, Matthew Benjamin Bowden (Emily Bowden), seven grandchildren, Allan Prentiss Bowden III, Bailey Bowden, Lainey Bowden, Charlie Bowden, Grant Bowden, Annabelle Bowden, Elizabeth Bowden, brother, Henry Warner Bowden(Michelle Bowden), brothers-in-law, Alan Hokanson (Mary Anne Hokanson), Donald Paul Hokanson, two nephews, Wesley Alan Hokanson (Rachel Hokanson) and Justin Hokanson.
A Memorial service for Allan will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary at First Evangelical Church, with visitation two hours prior. A private burial will occur at Memorial Park Cemetery.
