Alice Mae Thornton's Obituary
Alice Mae Thornton, 94, recent resident of Applingwood Healthcare Center Nursing Home, where she has resided for the past three years, passed on to the Lord of natural causes on August 3, 2018.Alice was born to William and Mildred Nelson in Memphis, TN on December 11, 1923. Alice met Russell, her husband, fell in love and married in 1941 at the age of 18. They traveled extensively in the military service with the US Air Force, and then retired in Anchorage, Alaska before returning home to Memphis in 1979.Alice is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Russell B. Thornton; two brothers, William Nelson and Harold Nelson, both of Memphis, TN, and recently by her younger sister, Rose Marie Brown of Huntsville, Alabama. She is survived by her two daughters, Linda J. Bradley (Bruce), of Cordova, TN and Patricia A. Novak, of Colorado. She also leaves one sister, Doris DeSantis, of Osage Beach, MO, and her beloved six grandchildren, Michael Troncone of Memphis, John Troncone of Mobile, Alabama, Sandra Green of Florida, Kimberly Novak of Colorado, Bonnie Sims of Colorado, Brandon Novak of Colorado and nine great grandchildren. They are Jaedyn, Madison, Julianna, Nicholas, Caleb, Alexandra, Dalton, Kristen, and Christopher.Alice lived an enriched life, full of fun and adventure both in her work as an administrative assistant for the Dept. of Forestry in Alaska, traveling to remote sites and cities, and then later back home to Memphis, TN.Over the course of her lifetime, Alice and Russell, who loved designing and building their own homes, completed over 6 new homes before retiring.Alice leaves her loving memory to be cherished by her family, friends, and loved ones.A memorial service will be held on Wednesday Aug 8, 2018 (10:00 am) at our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church Chapel, 8151 Poplar Avenue, Germantown, TN with fellowship and refreshments at the main church hall following the service. Interment will take place at Memphis Memorial Park Cemetery on Poplar Ave at 1:00 pm, Aug 8.The family requests in lieu of flowers, a memorial in her name be sent to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
