Alice Farris' Obituary
Alice Streater Farris was called to heaven on March 27, 2009 following a bout with Cancer.Alice was born in Blackhawk, MS where she graduated from Lexington High School at the age of 16 and Mississippi College for Women at the age of 20. She was a member of the Mam’selles Social Club. Alice worked for the Memphis and Shelby County Public Library until she retired in 1989 after 30 years of service. She was a real estate assistant with Griffin, Clift, Everton, and Thornton until she retired in 2008. She was a lifelong member of Methodist Church and recently became a member of St. John’s Methodist Church. Alice was an avid golfer who was well known at Audubon, Pine Hill and Davy Crocket Golf Courses for her ability to go really low and always hit the fairways. Other great passions of hers was rooting for the IT Vol’s football team, crosswords, Scrabble, gardening and attending her grandchildren’s various sports and music events. She will always be remembered for her positive outlook on life and her caring nature and quick wit. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Farris. She is survived by her children, Carolyn Carno Farris, Marti and her husband William Carty, Helen and her husband Jack Perkins, and Nelson Farris. She also leaves three beautiful grandchildren.Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., March 30, 2009. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., March 31, 2009 all being held at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery.Donations can be made to St. John’s Methodist Church, the Memphis Public Library or the American Cancer Society.
