Alfred Leland Yearwood, Jr.'s Obituary
Alfred Leland Yearwood Jr., beloved husband, father & grandfather, died at home August 5th, 2021. He was born in Oklahoma in 1926 to Alfred Leland Yearwood Sr. and Logusta Viola Yearwood. He was predeceased by his twin brother, Guy and three sisters, Jewel Johnson, Mary Schulz, and Frankie Yearwood. He and his wife, Mary Lou Reaves, were happily married for 65 years and were blessed with six children: Al Yearwood III (Janis), Gwen Wiggins (Lonnie), Bill Yearwood (Lorie), Cathy Whaley (Richard), Dianne Langley (Jeff), & Karen Glaus.
Al ran a magazine distribution center for many years before becoming a successful licensed real estate agent and broker, serving on the Memphis Board of Realtors. In his later years, he became co-owner of Sports/Care, a daycare center that positively impacted the lives of thousands of children in Memphis, Tennessee. Before and after retirement, he spent many hours fishing, leading him to design and patent a fishing tackle bucket. He was also a skilled wood worker, sports fan, tennis and card player.
His primary focus throughout life was always his family. His kind heart radiated generosity and humor everywhere he went. Al is remembered as a gentle, kind and quick-witted man who was loved by all. He is survived by his 6 children, 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild, and treasured dog.
The life of Al Yearwood is one that his family will remember and cherish forever.
Visitation is on Sunday, August 8 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis, from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm. The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 9 at 9:00 am also at the funeral home. The committal service will immediately follow, via an escorted cortege, at Memphis Memory Gardens.
