Alberta Mae Goodfellow Marable's Obituary
Alberta Mae “Goodfellow” Marable, 83 of Memphis, TN passed away peacefully March 20th, 2019 after a long illness with her children, family and friends by her side. “Bert” as she was so affectionately known is preceded in death by her mother, Alice McMahon Goodfellow, her father, Raymond George Goodfellow Sr., her brother RG Goodfellow Jr., her sister Monita Hara and her #1 grandson, Justin Lee Marable. Alberta is survived by her six children, Cecil King Marable III, David Lee Marable, Elizabeth Ann Marable, Mary Alice Marable, Frances Kay Marable and John Raymond Marable and her siblings, Artie Brown, Rita Fiduccia, Fred Goodfellow, Pete Goodfellow, Theresa Cyr, Mary Golightly and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in laws and loved ones.Bert was a graduate of St. Michael’s Catholic Elementary School in West Memphis, Arkansas and West Memphis High School where she was a star basketball player for the Blue Devils as well as the 1953 recipient of “Best All Around” from the Women’s 20 Club. Bert pursued her nursing degree from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Memphis, graduated from St. Joseph in 1956 and was a registered nurse for 42 years serving the needs of others working at St. Joseph and St. Francis Hospitals as well as a private duty nurse. Alberta was proud that her mother, two sisters, many nieces and great nieces also pursued nursing.Our family would like to thank Drs. Kamal and Veena Mohan who mother loved dearly. We would also like to thank Baptist Hospital, Allen Morgan Rehab and Baptist Reynolds Hospice House for the excellent care they extended to our mother during her illness.Funeral mass will be held Monday March 25th, 2019 at 10:00 A.M., at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 405 N. Missouri St, West Memphis, Arkansas 72301, with a reception to follow.In Lieu of flowers, Mom would like donations to go to St. Michael’s Catholic Elementary School, 405 N. Missouri St, West Memphis, Arkansas 72301 to help others begin their journey of education.Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38119 (901) 767-8930. “A Fitting Farewell for Everyone”.
