Al Irvin Ross' Obituary
Allison (Al) I. Ross, 69, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2016. He was born and grew up in Jamestown, NY, with his parents, Rosemarie Ross Jennings and Burdette Jennings. He was a veteran of the Army Corps of Engineers and a graduate of the University of Memphis with a degree in Construction Engineering, where he received an award for the highest grade point average in the Herff College of Engineering. After spending 25 years as a general contractor, returned to the University of Memphis to work in Campus Planning as a Construction Specialist. Some of his projects included the renovation of the historic US Custom House, Post Office, and Court House into the new home of the Cecil C. Humphreys School of law and the construction of the new Loewenberg College of Nursing building. A lover of the outdoors and of U of M basketball, he had been a member of the Memphis Beekeepers Association, the Memphis Canoe and Kayak Club, and a season ticketholder for Tiger basketball. He was known for being fair to his customers and colleagues and loyal to his friends. Al was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his wife Shoghig (Sunny), his daughters Ani Ross Grubb (Michael) and Araxee Ross (Kristian), and his grandchildren Taline and Zaven Grubb and Zabelle and Anitza Ross Moxley. Service will be held on Tuesday, September 6 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral with Visitation at 1:00pm and Requiem Eucharist at 2:00pm and a private burial service at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Al’s family requests that donations be sent to the St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral Building Fund or Church Health Center.
