Agnes Toma's Obituary
Agnes Voltermann Toma passed away peacefully at her home on December 30, 2018. She moved here from Brownsville, TN and worked for Union Planters Bank prior to her marriage to Julius O. Toma, Sr. She served as secretary for Toma Steel Co. Inc and while raising a family was an active member of Evergreen Presbyterian Church. Her skills in tailoring and eye for color and fabrics led to a partnership establishing Genie Fabrics providing a fine selection of fabrics, patterns and notions to Memphis area customers. They also coordinated and hosted many fashion shows furthering the clothing construction industry. Her interest in quilting from childhood led to the creation of Cloth Connections, a shop, offering fabrics, supplies and teaching the art of quilting. Her husband and son, Julius O. Toma, Jr. preceded her in death. Her son, Frederick N. Toma and his wife, Nancy and her daughter, Mary Jane Toma survive her. A graveside service will be held at Memorial Park, 5668 Poplar Avenue at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, January 2, 2019. The family requests that any memorials be made to the Memphis Union Mission or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
