Agnes C. Sims' Obituary
Agnes Lucile Callis Sims, died on June 22, 2025 in Germantown, Tennessee. She was 99 years old. Agnes was born in Somerville, TN on March 23, 1926 to James Arthur Callis and Lucile Agnes Ozier. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Richard “Dick” Sims; two sisters: Mabel Ann Ragsdale of Fulton, KY, and Margaret Imogene “Jean” Taylor of Memphis; and son-in-law Stacy Clayton of Collierville, TN.
Agnes attended Messick High School, followed by two years at Memphis State College where she served on the staff of the school newspaper and yearbook. In 1945, she transferred to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where she graduated in 1947. She had a keen interest in British history and was an avid reader her whole life. She was well known to the Germantown Public Library staff for her frequent visits. Agnes resided for many years on Chickasaw Rd. in Memphis, followed by several years in Atlanta Ga., returning to Memphis in 1980 to a residence on Gramont Cv. She was a longtime member of Mullins United Methodist Church in Memphis.
She spent her final years at Germantown Plantation Senior Living, where she enjoyed many outings and activities with dedicated staff and friends. The family wishes to thank every caregiver and staff member that touched her life and provided love and unsurpassed care.
Agnes leaves her son, Richard Sims (Debbie) of Franklin, TN; daughter, Liz Clayton of Collierville, TN; granddaughter Rachel Sims of Brentwood, TN; grandson Rick Sims (Jessica) of Westmoreland, TN; great grandson Liam Gentry of Brentwood, TN; as well as nieces and nephews.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Saturday, June 28 from 1pm to 2:30pm at Germantown Plantation Senior Living, 9293 Poplar Ave., Germantown, TN 38138. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory may be made to Germantown Plantation Senior Living. Private interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
