Agatha Gallina's Obituary
Agatha “Nan” Gallina, 94, long time resident of Germantown, TN died the morning of August 17, 2012. She was the daughter of Lorenzo Mensi and Jean Ricossa Mensi and was born in Memphis on January 24, 1918. She married John Gallina in 1938 at Little Flower Church in Memphis and they enjoyed 48 years of marriage. They worked their 6,500 acre farm in Ensley Bottoms that John and his brother Joe owned until 1958 when they moved to the Bailey Station area. Life in the Gallina household was exuberant and joyful with all of their children and friends who would come for extended stays. Nan was a wonderful cook, from her homemade ravioli to her famous black bottom pie. Nan was a gracious hostess and an invitation to the Gallina home was a prized event. Nan was a devout Catholic and a daily communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Our “Boggie” loved her family, her many dear friends, and was an accomplished golfer and bridge player, and an avid traveler, having visited many countries on five continents as well as her relatives in Italy. She was past president of the CBHS Mother’s Club and was instrumental in building the Bell Tower at CBU. She was past president of the Altar Society at OLPH, and a member of the Merry Makers at her church. She was predeceased by her brothers Lawrence Mensi, Frank Mensi and her sister Frances McClintock. She is survived by her children, Dr. Richard Gallina (Ann), Jean Jones (Jack), Dennis Gallina and Nan Gallina, her grandchildren John Gallina (Corey), Ellen Flautt (Trey), Elizabeth Sharpe (Joe), Michael Jones (Lisa), Brian Jones (Sheri), Kendall Ligon (Allen), J.W. Gallina, Matthew Beem (Mila), Meredith Flynn (John), and 19 great-grandchildren, along with many dear nieces and nephews, and her beloved cousin Francesca Sanford. The family would like to thank Frank Gattuso and all the staff of Ave Maria Home for their kindness and consideration. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Ave Maria Home, 2805 Charles Bryan Rd. Bartlett, TN 38134, the Monastery of Poor Clares, 1310 Dellwood Ave, Memphis, TN 38127 or the charity of your choice. A visitation will be held at Memorial Park From 5-7pm Sunday, with a Rosary at 7pm. Funeral will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Chapel at 11am Monday, August 20.
