Aaron Jerome ''Jerry'' Cohen's Obituary
Aaron Jerome “Jerry” Cohen, age 90, of Memphis, TN, passed away August 10, 2018. Jerry was born in Louisville, Kentucky, lived in the towns of Hollandale, Greenville, and Yazoo City, Mississippi, met his bride Frances Rebecca McCharen in MS, and together they moved to Memphis, TN in 1959. Jerry attended LSU and was a Korean War veteran. He retired from Malone & Hyde in 1990.Jerry was a creative, talented, and entertaining man who thrived on bringing laughter and joy to others throughout his life. He impacted many lives through his creative Sunday School teachings at Mullins United Methodist Church in Memphis for over 50 years. Many have said that he was their favorite Sunday School teacher of all time. One of his most memorable contributions to the Memphis community was playing Santa Claus for individuals, nursing homes, schools, fire stations, and his church. Jerry was very artistically talented, could build anything, and always had a “project” going on at home. He was known for his bubbly, outgoing personality and his continuous supply of humorous jokes and stories that brought people laughter. Jerry’s loves throughout his life were his church, family, movies and music from the 30’s and 40’s, world and U.S. history, and creative projects. He and Becky also enjoyed extensive traveling around the world. Jerry was loved by so many in every aspect of life, and will be missed by everyone that knew him.Jerry was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years Frances Rebecca (“Becky”) McCharen Cohen, his daughter Marta Cohen Weiss, and his sister Marlene Cohen Dattel. He leaves his children Anna Cohen Diehl (Ray), Larry Cohen (Catherine), and Judy Cohen. He also leaves his grandchildren, Kristi Diehl, Gray Cohen, Michael Cohen, Marissa Weiss, Drue Diehl McCasland (Kevin) and Halle Diehl Simpson (Adam).Services have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery at 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN., 38119. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, August 14 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. and Jerry’s funeral service is planned for Wednesday, August 15 at 11:30 a.m., both at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis. Contributions may be made in Jerry’s memory to Mullins United Methodist Church in Memphis, TN.
