Doris Mae Ryan (nee. White), 98, of Collierville passed away Friday, December 4, 2020 at Carriage Court of Memphis Memory Care. The fourth of seven children, she was born in Como, MS on December 5, 1922 to Silas and Alice Hawkins White. The family moved from Mississippi to the Whitehaven area of Memphis in the early 1930s where she lived for 60 years. During that time she attended Whitehaven High School, worked at the Memphis Army Depot during WWII, and South Central Bell where she met her future husband. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 59 years John Ryan, brothers GC (Jessie), Berlyn (Louise), James (Pauline), Quinton (Willie), Charles (Melba), William (Murlene) and two daughters-in-law, Bettye Ryan and Barbara Hornick Ryan. Doris enjoyed golf, music, dancing, playing cards (especially bridge and canasta) during her life. She was a devoted Christian, reading her Bible and devotionals daily, visiting nursing home residents, and was always ready to help others. She was a long time member of Whitehaven United Methodist Church and a current member of Collierville United Methodist Church. She was happiest when spending time with family and friends, helping others, and never met a stranger. She is survived by her son Raymond Ryan (Ann), daughter Rebecca Yarbrough, grandsons Randy Ryan and Chad Peyton (Polly), great-grandchildren Noah, Elijah, and Lucia, five step-grandchildren, ten step-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was known as Memaw to her grandchildren. A private service will be held with burial at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis.
