William C. Satterlee, III, Commander United States Navy (retired) passed away October 12, 2020 at the age of 75. Bill died peacefully at his home in Cordova, TN while sleeping. A native of New Orleans, he was born in 1945. Command Read Obituary
Rusty, Jumsy, Cookie, UB, Joker, Huge, Billy and Bill - no matter how you called him, you knew him to be one of those very special people whom God blesses with great capacity to love and serve others before self. Billy was my eldest brother. He was my hero. We had wonderful laugh sessions. Billy not only had a great sense of humor, he had the sharpest wit ever. If you had a worry, he would speak wisdom to you. He was always quick to help anyone with a problem or a need. Billy had a servant’s heart. I miss him terribly. But most of all, that I no longer have the ability to prepare his favorite dessert - our Gram’s bread pudding recipe. Billy called me Puddin’ because I could make it like Gram. Well Billy, you are with Gram now and no doubt enjoying her bread pudding in Heaven. I love you always my brother dear. Not a day will go by that I will not think of you and say a prayer for the repose of your sweet soul. If you’re already in Heaven, there is no doubt that you will ask Our Lord to apply those prayers to someone else. That’s what you did in life - kindness and charity - now you do it in Eternity.
I’ve known the Satterlee family for a long time. I was saddened to hear he had passed. Mr. Satterlee was a kind soul , always had a smile.Our conversation always something about God and him asking me how was my family.He will be greatly missed.Mrs. Clair and Chrissy and the entire family my thoughts and Prayers will continue be with all of you.Love Dolly
Mrs Satterlee and family, I was shocked and saddened to hear.of Bill's passing. It is obvious to all who kmew him that by reading the memorials he was one of those really rare individuals. A big man with an even bigger heart and an even bigger gift of compassion and service to all who came in contact with him. I got to know Bill well when he joined our Wed. night men's bible study group at OLPH. It was a joy to get his insights "straight from Satterleeland" on the readings for the upcoming werkend. Satterleeland had a lot of insight. One of his favorite Old Testament prophets was Isaiah. Bill was convinced that Isaiah wrote in a way to cause Bill's hair to catch fire ad hrvrried tto deciphet the lesson in it.He swore that when he got to heaven he was going to have a sitdown with Isaiah about improving the clarity in his writings. So it is only fitting that the last time I was there on a Wed. night the OT reading was from Isaiah and we all got to hear a rarity from Satterleeland. It was a backhanded compliment to Isaiah- that Isaiah must have had a bad day because this psrticular reading (55:6-9) was clear, concise and easy to grasp. He said he was going to ask Isaiah if he was having a bad day when he wrote those verses. I suspect thay Bill is probably having that conversation right now.
I lnow you will miss him. He was one of a kind. The best kind Please take comfort in knowing that he loved you all, he loved God and he loved his neighbors as God commands us too I am convinced that when God called Bill home he took that big aviator and raised him up on eagles wings. Rest in peace my friend. I am a better person for having you in my life. Eternal re st grant unto Bill, O Lord, and let your perpetual light shine upon him.

Bill was extremely close and dear friend whom I spent many years flying together throughout Latin and South America. we planned our recurrent training's together Airbus upgrades together and have talked and laughed for over 30 years. You are going to be deeply missed my friend and I will miss you.

Bill was such a good friend and a joy to work with. I have known Bill for decades and always had such a good time whenever he was around. I was deeply saddened to learn of his passing. I will truly miss him. My best to his family, may he Rest In Peace!
Dang, I can't believe it. Hearing about Bill is so sad. He was a great Guy. I first met him on the 727 around 1986 or so. Flying lots of EWR, ATL, FLL and such. He even lined me up with a girl from the control tower for a date. He knew everybody. Later, after I retired, found him working over in training department. We talked for quite a while. He was so appreciated for his helpful nature. He is a faithful man and I know he is with our Lord in Heaven. He worked a long life and deserves his rest. We miss you Bill. You are in the presence of the Lord.

It is with great sadness I offer my deepest sympathy in the passing of Bill. I will most certainly miss my big friend with a big heart and big smile. I have never met anyone more kind. FedEx Express was a better company thanks to Captain Satterlee.
It was with shock and sadness to hear of Bill's passing. His calm, pragmatic and fair demeanor was always impressive. Having flown with him many times, his flight skills were impeccable. His acute sense of humor was a delight and it was always a pleasure to be in his company. Strong man of faith, family, friends and country, Bill will be deeply missed. My good friend “Bear” was a mountain of a man with a heart to match. He loved and cared for his family. He was one of the most respected pilots at FedEx and in our Naval Reserve squadron. He cared about heritage—he would bring WWII vet, 95 year old Rusty Yetter, to our Association of Naval Aviation (an organization Bill led for a while) meetings. Bill was always concerned for others and his humorous wit made him approachable.
“Bear” loved music, loved playing the base. He never forgot his roots in New Orleans; I loved hearing him talk about working on a shrimp boat, playing football, and growing up in the big easy.
