William Thornton Segui, Sr., 83, passed away December 20, 2021, in Memphis, TN. He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Angela Stork Segui. He is survived by his sons William T. Segui, Jr. (Mary) of Olive Branch, MS, Greg Segui (Carroll) of Byhalia, MS, and Michael Segui (Kathy) of Silverhill, AL, his brother, Philip Segui (Evelyn) of Charleston, SC, and his beloved grandchildren Hannah, Sammy, Josie, JohnPaul, Michaela, and Lucia. Born in Fulton, KY to Felix and Maudell Segui, he grew up in Columbia, SC. Bill graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1956, where he formed life-long friendships and he and Angela met. He holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering, M.S., and Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina. After obtaining his B.S.C.E., he served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force from 1960-1963. In 1968, he joined the faculty at The University of Memphis where he retired as Professor Emeritus of Civil Engineering. He is the author of Steel Design, an engineering textbook in its 6th edition. He is a Life Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. An avid photographer, Bill and Angela’s home is filled with photographs of special people, places, and times. His most photographed subject is Angela. If engineering and teaching hadn’t worked out, he absolutely could have been a professional photographer. He had a clever sense of humor and his witty observations, delivered in all seriousness, regularly turned everyday situations into comedy gold. He loved his family deeply and treasured his friends; he is deeply loved. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Louis Catholic Church on S. White Station Road in Memphis, TN on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. An opportunity to visit with the family will be prior to the Mass beginning at 12:30 p.m. in Clunan Center Hall. The Rosary will be prayed at 1:00 p.m. In remembrance of Bill’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Herff College of Engineering at The University of Memphis, American Heart Association, or the charity of your choice.
