Sheila MacDonald Bailey

Sheila MacDonald Bailey passed away peacefully in her sleep after a short illness in Collierville, TN on April 15, 2022 at the age of 90. Born on June 22, 1931 in Montclair, NJ, Mrs. Bailey grew up in Montclair and Maplewood, NJ. She graduated from the Beard School for Girls in Morristown, NJ and then Western College for Women in Oxford, OH. She married her first husband Howard Finney, III in 1953 who was a Lieutenant in the US Marine Corps stationed at Cherry Point, NC. Three children, Linda, Jay and Paul soon followed. She moved to Memphis in 1963 with her second husband William B. Uhlhorn and immediately immersed herself in Memphis social activities, volunteering for such organizations as the Pink Palace, Junior League, Memphis Opera and the Memphis Zoo. Her greatest personal achievement was graduating from the Memphis College of Art with a MFA degree. She then had several well-regarded shows of her artwork and sculpture in several art galleries. Mrs. Bailey was married to the love of her life Joseph D. Bailey for 38 years before his passing in 2013. She is survived by her children: Linda Finney Williams of Nantucket, MA, Howard “Jay” Finney, IV (Jacqui Acevedo) of Boston, MA, Paul M. Finney of Palm Springs, CA; step-children: David Bailey (Jan) and Steven Bailey and their families; her sister Glenna MacDonald Ackerman (Robert) and her family; Grandchildren/great-grandchildren: Aryn Perryman (Alani Na’a) and their children Adaline and AJ of Adelaide, Australia; Colin Williams (Meggan Baird), and their children Gavyn, Isla, Eloise, Henry, all of Nantucket, MA; Evan Finney Gerardi of Nantucket, MA; Howard “Quint” Finney, V., Noelle and Fernando Villa of Boston, MA. Mrs. Bailey was predeceased by her husband Joseph D. Bailey and her parents Nestor J. Macdonald and Helen (Johnson) MacDonald. A graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery on Thursday, April 21, 2022. at 3:00 p.m. Condolences may be offered at www.MemorialParkOnline.com.
