Ramona Lynn Watson
August 4, 1929 - October 24, 2021
Ramona Lynn Watson, born in Memphis, Tennessee on August 4, 1929, passed comfortably and surrounded by family on October 24, 2021 in Wimberley, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents Clifford Everett and Anna Elizabeth Watson, and her sister Ruth Suter. She is survived by her son Joe [Cyndy] Carpenter [Englewood, FL], her daughter Joyce [Roger] Jones [Wimberley, TX], seven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. Four generations of loving adoration. Ramona was dubbed “Moni” by her father as a young child. To the many she influenced over her rich lifetime, this single, short name says so much. Moni was raised in Memphis, where she also reared her children, worked, and worshipped. She attended Highland Street Church of Christ, and Collierville Church of Christ as the family moved. Later in life, she migrated westward to the Hill Country of Texas, spending her last years surrounded by several generations and cherishing frequent visits from across the country. Moni was, at her core, a caregiver and servant to others. She lived alongside her beloved mother for many years until her passing at 102. She was a fixture in the lives of following generations, always making the day fun and full. A lasting image for many of her family would be Moni camping in her VW van at a state park, surrounded by nature, bicycling grandkids, a campfire, and the sound of Willie Nelson. Moni’s love extended so widely that it is not possible to know how many lives she touched. Her gregarious nature produced friendships effortlessly, with folks of any stripe, and she had a way of finding those in need of a little help. Each day, Moni found a way to provide for someone else – perhaps a dear friend at the local nursing home, or a stranger turned new friend. She connected with people at the heart, and never seemed too focused on herself. Those in her sphere felt her love through her touch, or mere presence. Her last years brought some health challenges, but nothing she wasn’t up for. Her vibrance was matched by her grit, and her twilight years were happy, reflective, and as always, she found a way to keep laughing through it all. And so, Moni’s trail doesn’t end. We know she’s busy making things better on the other side. Visitation will be held Friday, January 28th at 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 11:00 a.m. in the Fireside Chapel at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
