Michael Lee Rains, 53, of Collierville, TN, passed away Feb 8, 2021 as a result of Covid related pneumonia with kidney and liver failure. Michael was born and raised in Nashville, TN, He graduated from Christian Brothers University with a BS in Electrical Engineering. His FEDEX career spanned 23 years starting with FEDEX Express, where he expanded to the Enterprise Architecture community. He continued with his vast international experiences and culminated in his final role as the Technical Director guiding the technological direction for all of the FEDEX Freight operating company. He was adept at guiding and leading technical decisions from a place of quiet leadership and the respect he garnered followed him everywhere he went. When Mike spoke, people always listened and learned. He was well versed in late breaking software and hardware trends and brought a logical, engineer-first mindset to every situation. Because of that, he enabled multiple innovative solutions from concept to implementation including his work within FEDEX Express to solutioning next generation data center hosting strategies. He was instrumental in designing and implementing solutions worldwide and never shied away from hopping on the jet to be a part of the team helping solution business needs. His absence and loss will be felt throughout FEDEX as his contributions were far reaching. His greatest accomplishment was that of a loving father, husband and Christian. He lived his life to the fullest and taught his family how to love each other and how to take chances. He taught them how to be a family and how to be the best version of themselves. He showed them the world, literally. He loved camping, hiking and fishing. He led Boy Scouts for years and saw his sons reach Eagle Scout. He also loved wood working, golfing, music and coached/supported any sport his sons participated in. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Donna and two sons, Colin and Kyle. He leaves behind his sisters Debbie (Mike) Bumbalough, Drusilla Rains, Melanie (Jim) Martin and brother David (Lori) Rains, loving nieces, nephews and friends.
