Martha Jean Otte

December 30, 1925 - February 14, 2022

Martha Jean McFarland Otte, born December 30, 1925 in Memphis, TN, went to be with her Lord on February 14, 2022. Jean was the daughter of Grover Hightower McFarland and Lillie B. Delk Otte. She graduated from Memphis Tech High School in 1944, and in 1945, she married William Richard “Bud” Otte. They were married for 71 years, until his death in 2016. Jean was an active volunteer in church and community activities her entire adult life and was a Ham radio operator (WD4KKL). She was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church and long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. By both her words and her example, she taught her three sons how to lead a Christ-centered life. Jean was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her stepfather, Toby Luttrell; her sister, Betty Harris, and her daughter-in-law, Nelladean Otte. She leaves to treasure her memory her sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Sherrie Otte of Atoka; John and Sara Otte of Bartlett; and David Otte of Perry, Florida; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at Memorial Park Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. until the start of the service at 10:00 a.m., also at Memorial Park. Memorial donations can be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, 3743 Austin Peay Highway, Memphis, TN 38128; Immanuel Lutheran Church, 6325 Raleigh Lagrange Road, Memphis, TN 38134; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
