Maria Angelica Lara Born in Santiago, Chile August 26, 1960 Died in Memphis, TN March 15, 2020 To Our Dear Mother There are no words to describe the immense love you gave us. Your kindness was the light of our home; your joy was our nourishment, your warmth, our shelter. With you, we learned the meaning of unconditional love. Despite the adversities, your motherly love shelters us from every storm. You left everything you have known for the first thirty-nine years of your life to start from scratch in another country for the sake of your children. You paid fealty to one ideal at the expense of other- above proximity to your family in Chile, above your sense of belonging, above the comfort of understanding and being understood. All set aside for the promise of a better life for your children in America. Mom, you embodied values that today seem so out of fashion: your decency, your honesty, your absolute selflessness, your complete disinterest in ego. Your unshakable faith in God helped you face relentless adversities to fulfill your duty to your family and friends, without praise or gratitude. Today we are grieving but as you always said, tomorrow will be better. Our dad lost his loving partner for forty-two years and We lost our moral compass, and our shelter and our shining light and your friends lost a faithful and caring friend. In grief, we are shaken by the totality of you. Your unquestionable love for your family, for caring for us, for being there for us when times were rough will always be cherished. Mom, we will forever miss your funny stories, your laughter, your silly dancing, your cooking, and our unforgettable times drinking black tea at Starbucks. In your final days, against all the odds, you once again showed us the meaning of grace, courage, unshakeable faith, love of life, and above all, dignity in the face of your darkest hour. Mom, you have earned your eternal rest, now it is our turn to build upon your legacy and continue to attempt to live with the same values to make the life you gave us as dignified and courageous as yours. We love you mom we will forever miss you Until we meet again In loving memory, Your husband and children Maria Lara is survived by her spouse Eugenio; Children, Keno, Javier, Tamara, Felipe, Nicolas, and three grandchildren.
