Julianne (Julie) Adkins Sutch
June 14, 1949 - November 20, 2021
Julianne “Julie” Adkins Sutch passed away November 20, 2021 at her home in Memphis, TN surrounded by her adoring family after a brave battle with brain cancer. She was born in 1949 in Memphis at St. Joseph Hospital, the daughter of Octavia and James Brunson Adkins of Proctor, Arkansas. She moved to Memphis in high school eventually graduating from Messick High School, Class of 1967. She continued her education at Southern Methodist University where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree and was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She then went on to Memphis State University where she obtained a Master’s degree and was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. While at Memphis State, she met her loving husband, Don Sutch, and the pair married in 1979. Julie gave birth to two beautiful girls, Jennifer Sutch Slager (Joseph) and Stephanie Anne Sutch. She is also survived by the light of her life, her grandson William Grant Slager. After 50 years of service, Julie retired in June, 2021 from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center where she gave her life’s work to helping students and staff navigate the campus she ran with a kind word, quick wit, and unparalleled dedication. It was often said that if you needed information at UT, go see Julie, but be prepared to take a number at the door because everyone needed her. Julie had a strong Christian life and was a member of Christ Methodist Church for many years. Julie had friends too numerous to count and would often be found on a Sunday afternoon in her kitchen making a bread or casserole for a friend in need of comfort. She took great pride in helping people – friends and strangers alike – whether that be through monetary donations, a smile and a prayer, or advice that so many sought and greatly valued. Julie brought happiness to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, but we know she will have peace in Heaven in the loving arms of her mother and father. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, December 2 at 12:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m. all in the Riverside Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Julie’s memory to the Glioblastoma Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN, 38119. (901) 767-8930.
