Jean Marie Armstrong McIvor, 57, died June 11th after her battle with cancer. She was born September 16, 1957, in Nashville, the 4th of 6 children to Luther and Providence Armstrong. Moving to Memphis at 8, Jean attended St. Paul’ Read Obituary
I was a student of Mrs. McIvor's at the UofM. I still have her number in my phone which prompted me to look her up, as I remembered she wasn't doing well at one point. I really enjoyed learning under her. She had such a sweet spirit. I know this message comes year's later, but I hope that you can find some comfort in the lasting impact she has had on others. I will be praying for your family during this season.
I went to high school at BBHS with Jean for two years. Her smile lit up a room and she seemed to just love everyone! I had not seen her for years and just heard she was ill shortly before she passed. I just heard the heart breaking news about Jean’s passing. My heart is aching for her family and friends. Jean was a very special person and I have fond memories of Girl Scouts at Holy Rosary and other activities. She always had a smile on her face and something kind to say. She will be greatly missed. I know she is in heaven looking down on all of us and wishing the best for everyone. Rest in peace my sweet friend.
Jean was my colleague at UM, Loewenberg School of Nursing (LSON). Jean was such a special person both professionally and personally. She was so involved with the Student Nurses’ Association as she knew the importance of instilling professionalism and accountability into upcoming nurses. The other important role Jean assumed at LSON was leadership in providing socialization for our faculty. We depended on Jean to organize our faculty celebrations and help us “remember” to have fun together! Most of all, I will always remember Jean’s smile and her genuine care and concern for others! When I lost my son, Jean would frequently stop by my office to check on me. That meant so much as I knew how busy she was. I know my friend is now with God as one of His newest angels in Heaven. Jean brought student nurses to the UTHSC Boling Center for Developmental Disabilities. I remember her as a warm, compassionate person–always with a positive attitude and a smile. She made a difference in a lot of lives and had great influence on the nursing profession. Jean will be missed by many. Dr. Carolyn Gibson
