Grethel Sue Galey Stacey On Monday December 14, 2020 at 10:25 A.M., Grethel Sue Stacey passed from this earth, where she had suffered from a long illness, into the arms of her loving Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Grethel Sue Galey was born to Katie Lou Violet Cooper Galey and James Walter Galey Sr. She worked hard on the fam and the family dairy barn. She loved school and started at age 4 at Mt. Arie School in the Christmasville community near McKenzie, TN. She then attended Trezevant TN High School, where she played basketball and was a cheerleader. In 1952, she graduated from Greenfield TN High School. Grethel was an excellent student and excelled in secretarial and business studies. When she moved to Memphis she worked as a secretary and office manager. She dreamed of being a P.E. teacher and took community education classes at the UT (Memphis) and the University of Memphis. In 1958, she married her true love, Robert Isaac “Bob” Stacey. Their marriage lasted 62 years until her death. To this union were born twin sons James Kenneth Stacey, who died shortly after birth, and Robert Darrell Stacey. Sue loved her family and decorating the homes that Bob designed for her. She was always available for her son’s school concerns and anything else he needed. She loved travel and went all over the world with Bob as well as Robert Darrell and his wife Jeanie. She was active in many social organizations and was even a model in a charity fashion show. She was an excellent cook and hostess. She was kind, gracious, and loved her neighborhood. She was a member of Prospect Missionary Baptist Church as a child and youth, and the Second Presbyterian Church Memphis for over 60 years. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her son James, her sister Mrs. Doy Neal, and her brother J.W. Galey, Jr. She is survived by her husband Bob, her son Robert Darrell and daughter-in-law Jeanie, her brother Doyle Galey and sister-in-law Sylvia, numerous nieces and nephews. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to The Neighborhood Christian Center of Memphis 785 Jackson Ave., Memphis, TN 38107 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
