Dora Williams
July 10, 1923 - April 11, 2022
Dora died peacefully on April 11 in Nashville. She was 98. Born Dora Sorrelle in Dyersburg, Tennessee, she moved to Memphis at a young age, and it was her home for over 80 years. She attended Central High School and as a young woman worked for the Harsh law firm in downtown Memphis. Later in life she held a management position at the Internal Revenue Service. Quiet, gracious, and loving, wife of Prentice Carl Marsh, Sr. and later Eugene Williams, Dora was a passionate baker and seamstress, but her main joy was her family. A long-time member of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church and Second Presbyterian Church, Dora’s faith sustained her through the many challenges and joys of her life. She is survived by her children Charles (Lyn), Carl (Elisabeth) and Karen (Barry); stepchildren Jake (Cindy) and Jan (Richard); grandchildren Rachel, Nick (Samantha), Edward (Kirsten) and Kaitie (Lefty) and step-grandchildren Danielle, West, Hannah (Michael), Brooke, Nathan and Rine; and her six great-grandchildren. A private celebration of her life will be held by the family in Nashville. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
