July 9, 1957 - September 19, 2020
Diana Thornton Farr passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at the age of 63. Diana was born in Cleveland, MS on July 9, 1957, the only and adored child of Ray W. Thornton and Katie D. Thornton. Diana was interested in the Arts from a very early age, whether drawing, designing, painting or decorating, she loved all artistic expression. After High School Diana was eager to begin living an artistic life and enrolled in Patricia Stevens Professional School in Memphis. With natural talent, beauty and poise, she began modeling professionally, including being the cover model on the first issue of Memphis Magazine. Her modeling drew her to a passion for styling, both make-up and hair. Perfecting her skills in New York City gave her the experience to take her next step, and along with Barbara Watts, they opened La Nouvelle Salon, which has been popular in Midtown for over 30 years. A special place always known for exceptional talent and a wonderful atmosphere that so effortlessly turned clients into lifetime friends. Diana always wanted to continue growing artistically and she resumed painting and had success at shows in local galleries. Working on her personal collection was a highlight in Diana’s life, but her greatest joy in painting was sharing her love with her adored granddaughters, Isabella and Annalise. They spent countless hours together doing crafts, painting, and exploring creativity. The memories that they hold so close are the Sunday afternoons spent at the Orpheum with their “Nan” and how they always felt so special and loved. While we have lost our beloved Diana, Heaven gains a beautiful angel. She will be sorely missed by all of us who loved her so dearly. Diana was preceded in death by her mother, Katie D. Thornton, her father Ray W Thornton, and Barbara Watts, who she lived, worked and died beside. Diana leaves behind her daughter, Brooke Farr Kemp and husband Shane, and her beautiful granddaughters, Isabella and Annalise, and many friends and family who love her dearly. The family will hold a small and private memorial.
