Bobby Frank Newman, 88, went home to his Lord and Savior on March 2, 2021. He was born to Claude and Gertru (McCown) Newman in Ashland, MS on December 21, 1932 and was a devoted husband to his wife of 62 years, Mary Alice (Nethery) Newman, who preceded him in death. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He graduated from Tech High School in 1952 and attended The University of Memphis. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served his country during the Korean War where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Occupation Medal. After his return, he joined Bell South (now AT&T), where he spent his entire working career, retiring in 1995 after 39 years. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, working in his yard, and keeping up with friends at McDonalds and the Germantown Athletic Club. He was most recently a member of Grace Evangelical Church. A role model for his family, he will be remembered for his kindness and unwavering devotion. He is survived by his sons, Mark (Bridget) of Jonesboro, AR, David (Cindy) of Collierville, TN, and Scott (Mollie) of Germantown, TN; and 10 grandchildren: Steven (McKenzie), Alison Gauntlett (Hunter), Katie DeLaughter (Ken), Matt, Andy, Michael, Patrick, Kathryn Piper (Mason), John, and Mary Caroline as well as his brother Wesley (Joyce), his sister Linda Bennett (Jerry), and 2 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his 2 brothers, James and Gene, and a sister, Nell Cox. The family will have a private service on Sunday, March 7, at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home, followed by a private graveside service at Memorial Park Cemetery. The service may be viewed in his obituary section on the Memorial Park web site. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Wounded Warrior Project, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
