Marian McClintock Watson

Birth Date: August 6, 1919
Death Date: February 9, 2019

Marian McClintock Watson died suddenly on February 9, 2019 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis at the age of 99.

She was born August 6, 1919, in Cornersville, Tennessee, the daughter of Marion “Hamp” McClintock and Lucile McMahon McClintock. Marian graduated from Cornersville High School as Salutatorian of her class in 1937.

She moved to Memphis later that year to attend Baptist School of Nursing. It was at Baptist Hospital, where she met and later married one of her patients, Harry Clyde Watson. They were happily married for 47 years!

Marian was a 50-year member of Bellevue Baptist Church where she was a member of the JOY Sunday School class and faithfully worked in the nursery for 20 years. She was also a member of Kennedy Book Club, the Whitehaven Garden Club and the Ladies of the East Memphis Lions Club.

Marian later moved to Parkin, Arkansas to be near her daughter, son-in-law and her four beloved grandchildren. She was a member of Wynne Baptist Church in Wynne, Arkansas for over 25 years before moving back home to Memphis in 2015 along with her daughter and son-in-law.

In her remaining years, she devoted her time to what she loved most, her family. Known as Memaw to her grandchildren, one could usually find her with a book or crossword puzzle in her hand or working a jigsaw puzzle with a family member while recounting one of the many rich stories that encompassed her long life. She also continued to enjoy cheering on the Memphis Tigers, beating Jeopardy and satisfying her sweet tooth with dark chocolate!

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her son, Harry Clyde Watson III, her daughter-in-law, Marcia O’Neill Watson, her brother, Lee Erwin McClintock, her sister-in-law, Ann Austin McClintock and recently, her great-grandson, Lincoln Isaac Meeks.

Marian leaves behind her daughter, Linda Watson Toland and her son-in-law, Richard Toland of Memphis, her three granddaughters, Lindsey Alexander (Ian) and Wesley Hatcher (Eli) of Memphis and Sydney Meeks (Ben) of Tulsa, Oklahoma and one grandson, Drew Toland (Mary Beth) of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
