Howard Dallas

Birth Date: August 19, 1921
Death Date: May 15, 2019

Howard Dallas, age 97, was born August 19, 1921 in Vilonia Arkansas to Grover Ivern “Teav” Dallas and Artie Stevens Dallas.  He passed away May 15, 2019 at Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis, TN.

He leaves two daughters Deb Walker (Dennis) of Memphis and Susan Dallas (Brit Billingsley) of St. Paul, MN.

Howard graduated from Vilonia High School where he remained close to his classmates as long as practical.

In August 1943, after receiving his draft notification, Howard joined the Army Air Corps where he became a B-17 pilot.  He spent the war stationed in the Central European Theatre where he flew missions over Italy and Southern France.

A true war hero, he was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Service Stars.

After the war, Howard moved to Wynne, AR where he met and married the Wynne High School Homecoming Queen, Wilma Helen Thompson on Christmas Eve in 1948. Howard worked as an Air Route Traffic Controller, Bookeeper, Farmer and was an all-around handy man.

Howard served the Methodist church faithfully all his life. He was Treasurer of Oakhaven UMC for over twenty five years and during that time he also served as Annual Conference Delegate, Trustee, Staff Parrish Chair, Church Council Chair and a faithful member of the Chancel Choir.

He was a founding member of the Noiseful Joys Gospel Choir at Emmanuel UMC.  He was also a long-time member of the Adult Bible Class and the Chancel Choir.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 22 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and memorial services celebrating Howard’s life will be held at 2:30 p.m., all at Memorial Park Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial be directed to Noiseful Joys at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Golden Cross Senior Ministries or the West Tennessee Veterans Home Project 100.

  1. With sympathy. I salute you and thank you for your service WWll. So very few WWll vets remain of which my dear departed Dad was one. I pray for this family in their time of grief. God bless you all.
