John Runyan was a great man. Brilliant, compassionate and true gentleman.His research is using protocols and health department nurses established the scientific validity of nurse practitioners. He never received the credit he deserved for this work. He changed the practice of medicine. This intervention resulted in quality care to countless patients in cost effective manner. He was a mentor and friend to me and so many others.
Dr. Runyan was a great mentor to me and actually was one of the best tell it like it is people I have ever encountered. There was no truth he shared or word he spoke that was negative or offensive but he still managed to set you on course at least for me and I must have needed a lot of navigation! I loved hearing his tales of the farm years growing up and will miss this man so much. Have thought of him and his lovely wife with such dear memories like the Chamber Music Society at our home a couple of times! Thanks JWR!
Dr.Runyan was my first Chief of Endocrinology when I came to Memphis out of the Vietnam War. He was in all things a great doctor and Professor, and an inspiring person.,i.e. a true Southern Gentleman. Sol Solomon, M. D.
