Herschel Leroy Powell passed away at home on July 27,2020 He was born in Oklahoma City May 29, 1926 to George and Kathryn Powell. He had four brothers and two sisters. Danny Powell is the youngest brother. He and his wife Caroline Read Obituary

Herschel and Rita have been my dear friends since I moved back from California to Memphis in 1986. I attended bible studies at their home many Friday nights and enjoyed the fellowship as well as Herschel's leading out in the studies. Hersche'sl understanding of the Bible and his willingness to put into practice what he learned shaped his character and his life. He was a man of God. Not only did he put his all into studying the Bible but in more recent years he took up putting together jigsaw puzzles. I spent many hours with him sorting pieces by color and trying to find the right place for each piece. I will miss his friendship, his kindness to me and his patience and perserverence putting together his puzzles. I couldn't give up because he wouldn't give up.
What I remember about Herschel was what a kind and gentle man he always seemed to be. He will be missed. May God fill his loved ones with peace and comfort.
