I thank God for bringing my dearest friend Bettie into my life. Bettie was remarkable to say the least. She had the giving heart of a servant, the strength of a warrior, and perseverance unmatched. Her heart was strong and loving and always focused on her “ sons” and their well-being. They were her whole heart along with their families. Bettie loved an adventure. We spend special times in parks and gardens, cooking, swimming, swinging, laughing, exercising, walking, reading quietly together and sharing our deepest thoughts. I hold her in the highest regard and will never forget her. My love to her sons and their wives, their children and their grandchildren. She loved them all with her whole heart. I look forward to being with her again someday in heaven.

It is with a saddened heart I hear if Ms. Bettie's passing. I got to know Bettie while living in Memphis. Bettie was an amazing Lady. I will always remember Bettie walking her dog Shellie. Bettie always had a smile and a story. It was such a pleasure to chat with her and learn of her warm heart. My deepest sympathy to Bettie's family and friends. Sending hugs and love to all. I was reminded of Herbie. He and I worked at South Memphis Branch of First National (now First Horizon ). Sorry to hear about Bettie. I did not have the opportunity to know her.

I am so sad to read of Bettie's passing. Every time I was ever in her presence, I knew she was someone special. She had the spirit and energy of someone much younger than her age! She genuinely cared about people, and she was obviously deeply devoted to her family. I admired her spunk and her no-nonsense approach to life. In the short time that I have been so fortunate to know Bettie LeMar, she has amazed me, encouraged me, and inspired me in so many ways.
I have over the years bragged to friends and co-workers alike about this 90 year young lady they just had to meet to believe.
What a remarkable women!

Maw Maw knew how to really LIVE life and she lived hers to the fullest with spontaneous energy, a go and get it mentality, and a never stop having fun mind set. We will all miss her dearly. She was the youngest 94 year old ever! Some of my favorite memories include her enjoying a water balloon fight on a hot summer day at 90 years old with her grown grandkids and great-grandchildren, the party she let her high school aged grand kids have at her house with her moving all of the furniture out of the living room to make room for dancing, and her insistence on giving up her own bed in her own house and sleeping on an air mattress on the kitchen floor despite everyone’s objections when she had a house full of family over for the holidays and then lording it over her family that we “made her sleep on the kitchen floor” for years! She was the matriarch and leader of our small family, she could intimidate even the most unruly of great-grandkids into submission, and bossed all of us around with the air of a military general (she accepted laziness from no one). Maw Maw never stopped serving and loving others. She worked until she was 93 and volunteered just as long at many different places. She lived her life well all while serving and loving others. Just one year ago she sent over food to my house that she’d made for my family to help me out when we moved because she knew I was a busy, working mother. She wasn’t perfect as no one ever is, but she was ours. And we loved her so. I’m so grateful for the phone call I was able to have with her a week before she died. She told me she loved me and bossed me around one more time. I’ll treasure that phone call forever. I’ve always said that I want to grow up to be just like her. She left some mighty big shoes to fill!
